From October 2018 to early April 2019, Victoria Plummer, the DTA Senior Administration Officer and PA to the Director, walked the entire length of NZ by following Te Araroa (The Long Trail) which is a continuous 3 000 km track from the northern tip of the North Island to the southern extremity of the South Islands of New Zealand.

Victoria spent many months planning and training for her journey with weekends being spent tramping in all sorts of weather to prepare for the journey. Equipment was purchased and trimmed down so she carried the absolute minimum and she cooked and dehydrated her food then packaged it ready to be sent to pick up points along the way.

She walked an average of 32 kilometres per day in all weather conditions and over incredibly varied terrain.

She said that she met many New Zealanders and many more visitors who she was able to share huts, food and experiences with and regularly sent updates and photos to colleagues and friends.

Now she is back at work she is settling in to the more mundane routine of working for DTA and the Defence Force.
