The New Zealand Army require a valid, reliable and legally defensible fitness test to use in assessing whether deployed troops can perform the physical tasks required.
DTA were asked to assist in developing an appropriate test. We examined standard fitness test development from civilian and defence organisations.
We then conducted extensive task analysis to identify the most physically demanding, essential and most commonly performed tasks. These tasks were then validated and physiologically characterised.
A preliminary series of tests were developed and validated. Subject matter experts were then engaged to confirm the minimal performance standards required.
Currently trials are being conducted with all members of 1(NZ) Brigade completing the LCFT over the course of 2013.
DTA is supporting test-retest reliability assessments to check the reliability of the test.
