Case study: ANZAC frigates bridge console design

The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) ANZAC frigates are undergoing a mid-life refurbishment. As part of this there is a requirement for a new console to provide control and monitoring functions for the bridge.

By applying participatory human factor methodologies, including workshops utilising mock-up models of the console and involving end users in the process the human systems group has assisted with the design for the new console. The aim has been to develop a solution that is optimised for operational performance, safety and comfort.

The resulting bridge console design has been assessed through a formal operability evaluation and accepted by the RNZN.
