New Zealand at the forefront of addressing emergency reponse needs

The International Forum to Advance First Responder technology will be launched at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference on October 24-27, 2015 in Chicago.

The International Forum seeks to address high priority first responder capability gaps. New Zealand’s scientific efforts understand the diverse array of challenges faced by emergency responders and can certainly be leveraged to address some of these gaps.

In particular, New Zealand’s private sector is making new developments in addressing these needs. Martin Aircraft Co. is set to release a jetpack designed for firefighting. In addition, Earthquakes are a major problem and the country’s universities are actively exploring new approaches to earthquake resistant buildings. New Zealand’s Defence Technology Agency is working with its industry and academia to find the best technological tools available for first responders.
